# Upload a file

{% hint style="info" %}
Uploading a file requires a **Pro or Team plan**. [Learn more about pricing](/plus-ai/plans-and-billing.md).
{% endhint %}

Use this mode if you want to transform **existing content** into a presentation. You can either upload a file or paste in plain text.

This mode is useful for creating presentations from proprietary information (e.g., a paper you've written) or current events — like other AI tools, Plus does not have knowledge of the latest news.

You can also use upload a file to reformat an existing document or presentation into a Plus AI template.

{% hint style="info" %}
Currently, Plus AI cannot extract images, diagrams, or charts from your document.
{% endhint %}

## How to upload a file

Launch Plus AI in [Google Slides](/plus-ai/install-in-google-slides.md) or [PowerPoint](/plus-ai/install-in-powerpoint.md).

Click on **New presentation** and then **Upload a file**.

Alternatively, you can select a template and then select **Upload a file**.

### Upload a file

You can **Upload a file** from your computer or **Import from Google Drive**.

If your file type isn't supported, use **Paste in text** instead.

* You can't add images — remember, you can always insert them directly to the slides later

### Connect to Google Drive in PowerPoint

In PowerPoint, you'll be asked to log into your Google Drive and give Plus AI permission to access your files

* After logging in, scroll down on the permissions page and click **Allow**
* You can disconnect from Google Drive at any point. This will not log you out of Plus AI

In PowerPoint, log into your Google Account, then make sure you scroll down to "Allow" permissions

## Remix an existing presentation

If you upload an existing presentation (as a .pptx, PDF, or Google Slides file), you can choose whether to **Remix** — reformat your slides using a Plus template — or **Generate** a new presentation.

Remixing preserves your presentation structure — each slide will be reformatted into a new design.

Currently, Plus AI can only generate 30 slides at a time. If you need to reformat longer presentations, we recommend creating separate chapters and remixing each.

You can also [Remix individual slides](/ai-for-presentations/remix-slides.md) from the Edit with Plus sidebar.

### Default vs Strict mode

* **Default:** Your text will be rewritten — shorted or expanded — as needed to fit the slide layout
* **Strict:** Your text will be preserved as much as possible, which means it might not fill up or fit the output slide well.

## Generate a new presentation

If you upload a document or select Generate mode, we'll extract the content from your file and synthesize it into a new presentation.

### Enhance vs Preserve

* **Enhance:** We will rewrite your content to better fit the presentation format. For example, use this if you're uploading a meeting transcript that needs cleanup.
* **Preserve:** Use as much verbatim text from your document as possible. Plus will try to quote directly from your document, but will avoid elaborating or summarizing.

### Content instructions

* You can add additional instructions for Plus AI about how to the content of your slides.
* You **cannot** add formatting or design instructions (such as asking for specific colors or fonts). Plus AI will not be able to interpret them. Instead, choose a template that matches your desired look and feel, or use a [custom template](/ai-for-presentations/custom-templates-beta.md) or [custom branding](/ai-for-presentations/custom-branding.md)

### Other settings

* **Language:** This is the output language that your presentation will be written in. (Your prompt can be in a different language.) [Learn more about languages.](/ai-for-presentations/languages.md)
* **Number of slides:** This is the length of the presentation. Our AI model can only handle about 30 slides right now. If you need a much longer presentation, we recommend generating one chapter at a time. Newly generated slides are appended to existing ones.
* **Include Plus tips:** These are additional suggestions on generated slides. If you uncheck this box, we will not include them on your presentation.
* **Custom instructions:** You can save context about you or your company instead of typing it every time. [Learn more about custom instructions.](/ai-for-presentations/generate-a-presentation/saved-context.md)

## Editing your presentation

After your presentation is created, the add-on will close automatically.

{% hint style="info" %}
Newly generated slides are added to the end of your presentation. If you didn't start with a blank file, scroll down to find your new slides.
{% endhint %}

At this point, your slides work just like any other Google Slides (or PowerPoint slides). You can edit them directly, share them, or export them as a PDF or other file type.

The **Edit with Plus AI** sidebar will open automatically to help you continue to refine your deck.
